Ancient Greek Project Part 2

Todays class was same as yesterdays. We went into the art wing to work on our pottery. The other people in my group finished there so I was just kind of chilling with them, talking about what we were going to do to present. Mr. Schick said we would go first on Monday instead of Friday because the art teacher has to put our things in the kiln. I am happy about that because it gives us more time to prepare, work on the essay, and to work on the powerpoint.

Ancient Greek Essay

Todays class was fun because we got with our group and worked on out Ancient Greek Projects. I worked on the essay. I will paste what I have done so far. "Throughout the years of Greek history, art has been one of the many important aspects. The Greeks created various art pieces that stood out from other ancient cultures because most of Greek art contains detail paintings or sculptures of nude men. Greek art is typically divided into four periods: The Geometric, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic. " I am going to talk about the four different periods, then talk about pottery which is the most used. I will talk about the different types of pottery then be done. It only has to be one page double spaced so it shouldn't be too hard.

Test Day

Today's class was pretty chill. We took the last last of this quarter, and I think I did pretty well. IT was super hard and I didn't study as much as I would have liked. I had a Jesus test first mod so I was more concerned about that because I have a lower A in that class then Western Civ. I got 100 on that and I hope I get at least an A on this one. I think I got one wrong but its okay because I did my best. Later I have the second part to my bio test, part wasn't too hard so I am hoping the second will be the same. Mr. Schick told us a story about his doctor that went to college in Macedonia. I walked in from the bathroom while he was telling the end of his story, and the only part I heard was that his doctor claims he is relate to Alexander the Great.

More Notes on Ancient Greece

Today in class, we went back to taking notes. We got a lot of notes for Fridays test. We talked mostly about government, and different rulers of ancient Greece. I will list some of the notes that I looks today below:
-Draco (first): very harsh, but he came up with the idea that both rich and poor people are equal
  `Draconian- very harsh
-Solon (second)
-Cleisthenes (third): came up with the idea of Council of Five Hundred which is a group of men that were picked from random to come together for a counsel assembly
`There were certain guide lines, such as: free, adult, men, property owner, and had to be born in Athens... then you were considered a citizen and could be considered for the council of five hundred

Starting Ancient Greek Project

We had the whole class to get with our group and start gathering informations and planning out what we wanted to do for our Ancient Greek project. I think it will be easy because I like group work and especially about project where we have to make things. My job is to gather information about Ancient Greek art and different types of pottery and put all the information together in a essay and powerpoint. The essay only has to be a page long double spaced, so I will definitely have more than a one page paper. Kate, and Ryan are gathering information and going to build different pottery. Ella is starting the powerpoint then going to make pottery. I am also going to draw out some of the art that would be engraved on the pottery and explain the significance of that.

Ancient Greek Project

Todays class was shortened by five minutes. All we did was go over what we are going to do for our Ancient Greek project. I am excited for this because we dont normally do project and we rarely do group things. I am in a group with Kate and Ryan and I think it will be a good group. We already know we are doing our project on ancient greek sculpture. Ryan and Kate are going to build a few different things and I am going to write the paper. I think it will be pretty easy because we have the main idea already planned out. That is all we did in class.

Greek Notes

Todays class was alright. We first chilled for a little then we talked about a tragic accident that happened will a fellow jc alum. A really bad car accident killed Andy Klein. It a really bad accident and was extremely sad. Unfortunately some adults are still recovering from this. After that we continued to talk about Greece. We went over the Trojan war. We also talked about the storyteller Homer. He is blind and could memorize and tell stories to many people. They were amazing stories that people contradicted whether they were truth or just fiction. One of his most famous stories was The Odyssey.

Makeup Test Day

Today's class was pretty chill for the most part. It also went by pretty fast. I first wen tin and had to make up the test that I missed last week. I came in late because I had an appointment and miss the test. I was ready for the test and ended up getting only one wrong. Since each of the questions were five points I got a 93 but I am still proud of myself. We were able to use our blogs. I was pretty happy about that because I had put in all my notes lately and so it was basically like an open note book test. I flew threw it pretty fast. After I finished I kind of chilled for a little. Then when Mr. Schick came back from helping set up something in the auditorium, we took some notes of Ancient Greece.

Review Day

In Western Civilization class we review for our quiz tomorrow. It was supposed to be today, but yesterday we had multiple debates that carried out for a long period of time. Since we had those arguments we didn't get through all of the notes and side that we needed for our quiz. I am happy it got pushed back a day because it gave me more time to study and perfect my knowledge on Egypt and what the notes are. An irrelevant argument we had today was if fish are animals or not. Elpris thought fish aren't animals but the whole class said they were animals. He didn't know what he was saying.
Important Notes:
-Upper Egypt- 500 mile long; fertile land along nile
-lower Egypt- wide land of nile delta; emptying into the Mediterranean Sea
-(Narmer (pharaoh)) two land were united under a single king
-Egyptians believe in afterlife, called Ka, mummified bodies (to preserve) for post- death journey
-Astronomers created 12 month calendar, & 365 days to make a better sense of seasonal cycles
-wooden sailboats were made (technological break through)
-pyramid- massive stone tombs
-gods ofter portrayed as an animal head with human body or human head with an animal body

Mr. Schick's Notes (Egypt)

Today we had a two hour delay so every class was shortened (forty minutes). We are supposed to have a seventy five point quiz tomorrow in western civ but I don't know if it is happening. I don't know if it is happening because on a few on the slides we had some pretty long discussions and didn't get through all the slides and notes that we need for tomorrow's quiz. I am still going to study a little bit in case we end up still taking it. I hope it isn't hard, and I don't think it will be because I did pretty well on his last quiz. I starred some of the notes that I wrote down in class because Mr. Schick said they would be test questions.

Important Notes:
-Upper Egypt- 500 mile long; fertile land along nile
-lower Egypt- wide land of nile delta; emptying into the Mediterranean Sea

Last Test

Today our classes were shorter (only 50 minutes) because it was a D day and we got out early. We also took our last test in Western Civ. I t...
