The past two days, our class has been taking notes on the Renaissance era. Here are some important notes I took:
-Renaissance= Rebirth (of art and learning)
-Northern Italy- birth place of Renaissance
-Most important- cities
-Milan & Florence- wealthy merchants/ bankers
-Artist inspired by former splendor of classical Greece/ Rome
Merchants/ Medici
-Merchants
-Medici powerful/ healthy banking family
-patrons
-paid artist, sculptures, writers, musicians to create art (beautiful)
-Super-Patron: Isabella d' Este
-patronized- Da Vinci, Raphel, Michelangelo, Bellini Correggio
-Humanism- A deep interest in what people have already achieved, as well as what they are capable of achieving in the future.
-classical (Ancient Greek/ Roman) writings- very important
-wordly (secular) values were essential- concerned w/ the here and now
-"Renaissance Man"- very good at many jobs/ work
-"Renaissance Woman"- inspire artist to create art
-Leonardo da Vinci- Renaissance man (painter, scientist, inventor)
-Pieta: (Mary/Jesus) carved from marble
