Going Over Textbook

Today's class went by really fast. WE just went over what we read and took notes on last class. I like doing that because it can adjust my understanding to make sure I know everything. I added to my notes from the last blog. The will be below.

Direct democracy- Form  of government that people directly take part in, not through other people/representatives.
Classical art- Art that brought peace and harmony and valued those things as well are proportions.
tragedy- Serious drama that goes along with love, hate, betrayal, and war. deals with a hero and a down fall. fatal flaw HUBRIS
comedy- Funny drama that goes along with cruel humor, and slapstick events.
Peloponnesian War- The war between Athens and Sparta over land, and Sparta won.
Philosopher- People who determined to seek the truth, no matter what they were to find ("lovers of wisdom").
Socrates- He believed the real standards didn't exist for justice and truth.
plato- He was a student of Socrates, and wrote The Republic. He divided people into three groups: farmer and artist, warriors, and the ruling class.
Aristotle- He questions the nature of the world and human belief, knowledge, and thought.


Tragedy: Sophocles wrote: Oedipus Rex
comedy: Aristophenes: Lysistrata
